Git Scheynius is awarded the Stockholm City Bellman Prize 2022

News /

We are incredibly proud to announce that this year's recipient of the Bellman Prize 2022 is Stockholm Film Festival's festival director Git Scheynius.

The Bellman Prize rewards a person, association, group or festival who in their artistic work has highlighted Stockholm from an artistic perspective, used the city scenically in artistic expression or contributed to giving a positive image of Stockholm as a city of culture in an international context. Stockholmers have picked their own nominees and a jury has since produced a proposal that has been decided by the cultural committee in the city of Stockholm.

Motivation of the jury:

"Nobody believed in the Stockholm International Film Festival in 1990. It was not possible to challenge the industry giant in Gothenburg. But Git Scheynius succeeded. For more than 30 years, she has broadened and developed the festival with increasing quality, not least for the juniors. Here Stockholmers meet the world's best filmmakers. The festival has become a place where the stars thrive, speak freely and meet their audience face to face. The Bellman Prize is awarded to someone who put Stockholm on the map. Go ahead, Git Scheynius, it's your prize this year. "

– It is with great pleasure that I accept this award, it is absolutely overwhelming. My dream of creating an arena for international high quality film in Stockholm has come true. I want to dedicate this award to everyone who over the years has been involved in making the Stockholm International Film Festival to what it is today, current and former employees, partners and volunteers. Thank you and thank you to the world's best festival audience, says Git Scheynius.

Stockholm International Film Festival is a meeting place for film lovers and filmmakers around the world. Every year, over 100 film premieres are presented and over the years, the festival has been visited by thousands of filmmakers – both debutants and film icons. Celebrities like Francis Ford Coppola, Susan Sarandon, Luc Besson, Lauren Bacall, Ang Lee, Gena Rowlands, Rosanna Arquette, Céline Sciamma, Quentin Tarantino, and most recently, Kenneth Branagh have all visited the festival and met audiences in cinemas. Stockholm International Film Festival also has a long tradition of highlighting young and unestablished filmmakers. For the young film audience, the festival has since 2000, with great success, arranged the Stockholm Film Festival Junior.
