Panel discussion with Sahraa Karimi

The only woman in Afghanistan to hold a PhD in film, director Sahraa Karimi was appointed the first female Head of the Afghan National Film Organisation in 2019. After the Taliban took siege of Afghanistan, Karimi fled her home country in August 2021 and her title was handed over to a man. Karimi will be Head of this year’s festival jury committee and will be joining us for an inspiring panel, discussing the rights of women and workers in the culture industry.

Sustainable Film Production - Costa Brava, Lebanon

Costa Brava, Lebanon tackles the issue of sustainability, both on and off screen. Focusing the narrative around the 2014 ‘garbage crisis’ in Lebanon, the filmmakers made sure to back up the film’s political message by using sustainable methods for every step of production. The end result is a strong political statement, and a film that sets an example for what the future of sustainable filmmaking could look like.

In this seminar, Bassam Alasad from Greener Screen will share some of his expert knowledge about sustainable film production. One of the producers of Costa Brava, Lebanon, Myriam Sassine, will walk us through the process and experience of working on a sustainable production.
